Lerch Bates Awarded Contract To Design Facade Access System For China Resources Headquarters High-Rise In Shenzhen, China

Skyscraper is Expected to be the City’s Second Tallest Building When Completed

ChinaResourcesCenterShenzhen, a city in southern mainland China with a metropolitan population of more than 10 million people, has become a major financial center with a rapidly evolving modern cityscape. Lerch Bates, an international consulting firm for vertical transportation, façade access and materials management, has been selected to design the façade access system for a high-rise tower that will become a landmark on the city’s eclectic skyline.

The $3 billion (USD) China Resources Headquarters tower will be more than 1,300 feet (400 meters) tall and is expected to be Shenzhen’s second tallest skyscraper when it is completed in 2016. Designed by international architectural firm KPF, the structure will house a new mainland headquarters for China Resources and will resemble a bamboo chute with a diagrid skin.

Lerch Bates has built a reputation as a worldwide leader in the design of complex façade access systems. The firm’s façade access consultants continually make benchmarks in innovation when designing exterior building maintenance equipment systems. The systems enable clients to safely access all exterior facades of their buildings for window cleaning and other exterior maintenance. Lerch Bates has designed façade access systems for exceptional buildings around the world including the 2,717-foot (828-meter) Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 1,667-foot (508-meter) Taipei 101 in Taipei, Taiwan, the 1,483-foot (452-meter) Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the 1,476-foot (450-meter) Nanjing Greenland Financial Center in Nanjing, China.

“The China Resources Headquarters tower is one of those magnificent projects that companies in our industry dream about being a part of the design team,” said Jeff Marsh, Lerch Bates’ vice president of business development and marketing. “As China continues to witness tremendous growth in the construction of high-rise structures across the country, Lerch Bates is both eager and prepared to be a part of the teams that design the future tallest buildings in the world.”

The China Resources Headquarters tower is the focal point of the Shenzhen Bay Comprehensive Development Project in the city’s Nanshan District. The development project covers more than 281,000 square feet (26,105 m2) and also will include a cluster of modern office, hotel and residential buildings, a new headquarters for China Resources subsidiary Vanguard and a massive shopping mall. Construction of the project began in October 2012. The Port of Shenzhen is one of the busiest and fastest growing ports in southern mainland China and is located in the Pearl River Delta in the country’s Guangdong province.
