Lerch Bates Receives Approval From State of Arizona to Perform Inspections of Vertical Transportation Systems

Only Two Companies Have Received Licensing to Perform Third-Party Inspections in the State

Lerch Bates, an international consulting firm for vertical transportation, façade access and materials management, it has been approved by the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (“ADOSH”) to perform inspections of elevator and escalator systems throughout the state. Lerch Bates is one of only two firms that have been licensed by the State of Arizona to perform third-party inspections of vertical transportation systems.

On July 29, 2010, changes made by the Arizona State Legislature to the Arizona Elevator Act allow the use of private elevator inspectors for vertical transportation systems. The amendment gives owners and operators of elevators and escalators the option of hiring ADOSH-approved private elevator inspectors to conduct initial and annual statutorily required inspections.

Lerch Bates recently completed an extensive application process with the State of Arizona and was approved and licensed by ADOSH to perform third-party inspections of vertical transportation systems throughout the state. The licensing of Lerch Bates gives owners and operators an additional choice when selecting an inspector and gives them another option when the State Elevator Section is unable to accommodate inspection deadlines. There are currently more than 30,000 elevators operating in Arizona.

“Being licensed by the State of Arizona to perform third-party inspections of elevators and escalators opens up a large new market for Lerch Bates,” said Jeff Marsh, Lerch Bates’ vice president of business development and marketing. “More and more states are allowing the private sector to perform initial and annual inspections of vertical transportation systems and we are leading the way in gaining approval in those states. It’s truly a testament to our team of certified professional engineers around the country that have given Lerch Bates such a respected name in vertical transportation consulting.”

Founded in 1947, Lerch Bates is the oldest and largest vertical transportation consulting firm in the world and has consulted on the elevator and escalator systems of many of the world’s tallest buildings. The firm relies on its unique expertise in elevator engineering and technology to design and modernize elevator systems all over the world including the 2,717-foot Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 1,667-foot Taipei 101 in Taipei, Taiwan, 1,476-foot Nanjing Greenland Financial Center in Nanjing, China and 1,389-foot Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago, Illinois.
